Logsdon Pond East — Edge Planting Design

As part of my work in the 17-acre Helen S. Layer Rhododendron Garden, I designed the pond-edge planting scheme for Logsdon Pond East in 2022 — roughly 2,700 sq. ft., with over 25 woody and herbaceous species suited to both shade and full-sun pond-edge conditions, mixing native and non-native selections. More than 200 plants went into the site, chosen for habitat value, seasonal interest, and cohesion with the surrounding rhododendron collection.

Phlox and daffodils, Logsdon Pond East — Phlox subulata 'Emerald Blue' was added to this rocky edge to accompany the existing daffodils welcoming spring to the pond.
