Garden planting
To decrease erosion and unwanted foot traffic on this slope I composed a palette of shade tolerant woodland species. We constructed log terracing to plant into. Shown here: Polystichum acrostichoides, Athyrium niponicum var. pictum, Carex plantaginea and Carex morrowii 'Ice dance'.

Astilboides planting
Astilboides tabularis in bloom.
Astilboides
I transplanted this Astilboides tabularis in 2023 (photo taken in 2025) from the West edge of Logsdon pond. This plant was wild collected in 1986 from China.
Boehmeria japonica
This Boehmeria japonica came from a legacy garden THA no longer owns and was given to me by curation. I planted it here to showcase its sweeping foliage against the rocks.
Brunnera planting
Brunnera wasn't in the original plant list, but I added it here as a low-growing companion to the Anemone japonica — a good fit that keeps the integrity of the original design.
Ferns
I added more Dryopteris erythrosora 'Brilliance' here to fill out the empty space and help showcase the Magnolia 'Golden Gift'.
